PJ Berri no Mogu-Mogu Munya-Munya (PJベリーのもぐもぐむにゃむにゃ PJ Berri's Munching Mumbling)[1] is a series of anime shorts created by Rodney Greenblat for Fuji TV, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the PaRappa The Rapper Franchise and the 15th anniversary of the anime. The shorts average at around 1 minute and a half each, and instead of Parappa, they focus on his friend PJ Berri.

The first episode aired on Fuji TV’s late-night Hi Poul programming block on the 18th August 2016, with the show becoming a regular segment of Hi Poul in October 2016. It would later get a second season in 2017. [2]

The first season was animated by Doga Kobo, while the second season was animated by ODDJOB.

Chop Chop Fruites Cafe

The Fruites Dojo has apparently now become the Chop Chop Fruites Cafe, where Chop Chop Master Onion is the chef and PaRappa works part time. PJ's role of visitor or employee seems undisclosed.

Most of the episodes have him falling asleep, dreaming of himself as the king of "PJ Land". His advisors seek him when problems arise, and PJ helps them, unaware that he is also advising someone outside of his dream world.

  • PJ Berri (Voiced by Jun Oosuka. PJ's design is unchanged from the games and anime. He is described to be "a laid-back teddy bear who likes eating, sleeping, music, and doughnuts especially.")
  • PaRappa Rappa (Voiced by Yuuyo Suzuki. Parappa is now wearing a black and white striped top and a Chop Chop Fruites Cafe uniform over his normal pants. He is described as "PJ Berri's close friend. He is optimistic, skilled at rapping, and equipped with a wild imagination. He works part-time at the Chop Chop Fruites Cafe.")
  • Chop Chop Master Onion (Voiced by Yōji Ueda. Chop Chop Master Onion's design is unchanged apart from the Chop Chop Fruite Cafe Logo on his robes. He is described as "a karate master from the east who formerly ran the Fruites Dojo, and now runs the Chop Chop Fruites Cafe as its owner/chef.")

Characters such as Sweety Bancha, Lammy, Katy Kat and Sunny Funny have already made minor appearances.

Episodes[]

In total, Season 1 contained 20 Episodes, while Season 2 contained 6. However, Episodes 12 to 20 were nowhere to be found online and was considered lost media until various users were able to find the episodes.[3] It has been speculated that they are available on Fuji TV's website with a paid subscription.

Season 1[]

Episode 1:
PJ is spoken to by a rock who wishes to be able to wear dresses to appear like a beautiful girl. PJ is currently dreaming about his duties as king of PJ Land, where his people warn him of enemy soldiers approaching to supposedly slay him. The rock takes the advice to slay herself and is now... smaller or something. Cute.

Episode 2: PJ gives advice to some crab. Air date: October 13th, 2016

Episode 3: PJ gives advice to a block of ice that is melting in the heat. Estimated air date: October 20th, 2016

Episode 4: PJ is not at the restaurant, but on Sweety Bancha's couch. Sweety tries to get PJ to see the commercial of the Café, but he keeps dozing off. She then gets the idea to play various songs in order to control his dreams. This leads to PJ having a nightmare from hearing rock music and grabbing Sweetys' hand, then she tries to comfort him. A heartwarming episode, indeed. Air date: October 27th, 2016.

Episode 5: PJ gives advice to a cloud? Sunny Funny and Katy Kat are there...? Air date: November 3rd, 2016.

Episode 6: PJ and Parappa are outside. There is a cursed mirror and Lammy is running, most likely for being late for band practice or a concert! Estimated air date: November 10th, 2016

Episode 10: It's Parappa's birthday, but it seems as if no one remembers or cares. Then, he gets a "Happy Birthday" phone notification, but nothing else. He then calls up Matt, but he says he's busy with something. Parappa gets worried that no one cares at all. A blackout suddenly happens, scaring Parappa. This turns out to be PJ DJ'ing for a surprise party, and Parappa realises everyone does care about him. Sunny gives him a present and kisses his cheek, with Parappa fainting and exclaiming "This is the best birthday of my life..." . Estimated air date: December 8th, 2016
